Katy Perry turned heads in Los Angeles on Saturday as she stepped out to attend the Once Upon A Time gala thrown by the city’s Children’s Hospital.
Donning an embellished golden gown with glittering floral details, the 31-year-old happily posed for photographs on the red carpet.
Speaking at the gala, the popstar recounted an emotional experience she had while visiting the hospital in December last year, where she got to experience the moving story of one family in particular.
“The first thing I see is this mom with her baby that has got like five to eight tubes attached to it. She tells me, in a bit of broken English, that she had just written her first song,” Katy said, wiping away tears.
“They brought in a guitarist and she started singing me a song that she had written for her baby about bringing her baby home. And this baby was not coming home for a while, it was very obvious – and so we were standing there, in a circle, the three of us.
“I’m a puddle at that point, because I know that music heals and it’s amazing that Children’s Hospital knows that as well, and they utilise that as one of their many services,” she continued.
At the gala, Katy also took to the stage to perform a selection of her hits as well as an emotional cover of the classic, ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow.’

While Katy attended the gala solo, without her famous beau Orlando Bloom by her side, the ‘Rise’ singer was joined by a host of famous faces at the event including honoree Drew Barrymore.
Drew, 41, was one of three recipients of a Courage to Care award at the event, given in recognition of her efforts to help children around the world.
Drew and Katy got together to snap several photos – including a selfie or two! – on the red carpet. The actress was also glammed up for the charity event in an off-the-shoulder black floor-length gown with sheer sleeves.
Other stars attending the gala included Teri Hatcher, actress/singer Katharine McPhee, Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Stonestreet and Josh Gad.
The gala was held as a celebration of the children and staff at the hospital who change lives through their hard work and compassion.
Other Courage to Care award recipients during the evening included the Los Angeles Kings ice hockey team and the Billy And Audrey L Wilder Foundation.
