Kiwi boxer Carlos Ulberg may be TV3’s new leading man for season three of The Bachelor NZ, sources claim.
Citing well-placed Mediaworks sources, Stuff has reported that the network has moved to sign up the 26 year old model and kick boxer to head the next round of the reality show, which starts shooting early next year.
While the bachelorettes are yet to be recruited, Woman’s Day’s A List Insider and the new host of The Bachelor Dominic Bowden confirmed late last month that the production team were “very close” to landing their leading man.
“We need to be careful,” said Dom.
“We are being very diligent to make sure that people are not there for the wrong reasons: to get Instagram followers or become, quote-unquote, ‘famous’. Because that’s not what this is about, if we wanted to create a TV show with high drama, then that’s the way we would do it.”
Front-running contender Carlos is no stranger to the spotlight, as he’s already a signed model with Red Eleven modelling agency, was a finalist in Cleo magazine’s Bachelor of the Year competition last year, and a runner-up in the Fresh TV series Mr Lavalava.
Carlos, who works as as a trainer at the City Boxing gym in Auckland and fights professionally as a kickboxer, has previously spoken about a troubled upbringing in Otara, being shuffled around foster homes, but choosing sport over the gang lifestyle adopted by many of his friends.
Last month he featured on an early shortlist of candidates leaked by Mediaworks.
