When she first burst onto screens in 2001, she served as a timely reminder that pink-loving sorority women could smash the patriarchy just as effectively as our headband-wearing, ‘we can do it’ poster girl sisters.

And as she fought off her sexually harassing boss, came to the aid of fellow women on her team and proved that you don’t have to let a little thing like being blonde stand in the way of being taken seriously – Elle quickly became one of our favourite film heroines.

Now, 16 years after the original film was on screens, Elle actress Reese Witherspoon has suggested our beloved blonde might be making a comeback in the near future.

Speaking to E! Online, Reese said: “I do think that it’s a good time to do it. I think women need that kind of positivity right now.”

Reese has already starred in Legally Blonde 2, that was screened two years after the original, but says she’s definitely up for a third installment – so long as the right idea is pitched.

“I just need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea and we’ll do it,” she told the network.

Here are some of the best words of wisdom from Elle Woods:

Warner Huntington III: “You got into Harvard Law?”

Elle: “What? Like it’s hard?”

“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.”

“I taught Bruiser to shop online, I think I can handle Congress.”

“I like your outfit too, except when I dress up as a frigid bitch, I try not to look so constipated.”

“If I’m going to be a partner in a law firm by the time I’m 30, I’m going to need a boyfriend who’s not a complete bonehead.”

“You must always have faith in people. And, most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.”
