Not long to go!
Brace yourself for a tween frenzy – One Direction arrive on our shores this week. With their arrival coinciding with school holidays, we’re expecting their fan base to be out in full force searching for the five-piece pop phenomenon.
One Direction will land in Christchurch ahead of their first sold-out concert this Thursday evening.
When the band were here last April, they arrived at Auckland International Airport where a private van met them on the tarmac to ensure their swift, concealed exit to the CBD. Hundreds of fans turned out to see them, despite a memo being issued, warning the band would not be making a public appearance. However, a few well placed, lucky fans caught a glimpse of the boys and got a wave as their van sped onto the motorway. Security is expected to be tight at Christchurch Airport, as well as the hotel they will be staying at, which is yet to be disclosed.
Last year, their location at The Langham hotel was quickly uncovered, where fans camped out for the duration of their stay. The screaming girls (and guys) were rewarded for their patience as the boys waved from their hotel room and even came outside to say a quick hello.
There were similar scenes in Wellington, where hundreds of girls had their eyes glued to the windows of the Intercontinental Hotel.
Will you be joining the search for One Direction this year? We would love to hear how you, or your family, are celebrating the band’s arrival. And, of course, if you are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of them, we’d like to hear about it. Send your stories, comments and photos to [email protected]
