Whether it was a war of words played out in the media, or emotionally charged arguments on a movie set, it’s clear that some celebrities just weren’t meant to get along!

And while some celebrity duos eventually patched up their friendships, others have yet to extend the olive branch.

Take a look back at some of the biggest celebrity feuds here

Zayn Malik vs Louis Tomlinson: After Zayn left One Direction – leaving plenty of fans heartbroken – the singer got into a Twitter spat with his former band mate, Louis Tomlinson, after producer Naughty Boy took to the social media platform to share a heavily filtered photo of the pair in the studio together, working on new music.

“Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha!” Louis tweeted just hours afterwards, in what many fans saw as a not-so-subtle dig at the pair. Zayn promptly replied, tweeting “@Louis_Tomlinson remember when you had a life and stopped making bitchy comments about mine?” Ouch!

Daniel Craig vs the Kardashians: It appears James Bond himself is no fan of the reality TV stars! In an interview with GQ in 2011, Daniel Craig had this to say about when asked about the famous family: “You see that and you think, ‘what, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f—king idiot on television and then you’ll pay me millions.’ I’m not judging it – well, I am obviously.”

Elton John vs Madonna: They’re two of the biggest names in pop music, but Elton John and Madonna have had a famously frosty relationship for years. It all started in 2002 when Elton slammed Madonna’s ‘Die Another Day’ track as the “worst Bond tune ever”, but his most controversial comment took place ten years later, when he said Madonna looked like a “f—king fairground stripper”.

Today, however, it seems the pair have made up after Elton personally apologised to the singer during a chance encounter at a restaurant.

Gwyneth Paltrow vs Martha Stewart: In 2014, Martha Stewart was asked about Gwyneth Paltrow and her lifestyle guide Goop. Martha didn’t hold anything back, telling Porter,“she just needs to be quiet. She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart”.

Julia Roberts vs Nick Nolte: There was no love lost between Julia and Nick during filming of the 1994 film I Love Trouble, where the two played rival journalists who eventually fell for each other.

Julia said that while Nick could be “charming and nice, he’s also completely disgusting”. Nick later retaliated, saying, “It’s not nice to call someone ‘disgusting’. But she’s not a nice person. Everyone knows that.”

Nicki Minaj vs Miley Cyrus: At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, Nikci Minaj slammed host Miley Cyrus while she was on stage to accept an award. “And now … back to this b—h that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley, what’s good?” Nicki said at the time.

The feud began even before the awards night when the nominations were announced. Nicki tweeted that if she had been “a different kind of artist”, her song ‘Anaconda’ would have been nominated, adding that black women “influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it”. Miley later fanned the flames of their feud by criticising the way Nicki had spoken out about the topic: “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj, is not too kind. It’s not very polite.”

Ryan Gosling vs Rachel McAdams: It’s hard to believe, but the two stars of The Notebook – who went on to date in real life later – didn’t get along very well during filming of the romantic drama. According to director Nick Cassavetes, Ryan went so far as to ask that Rachel be fired from the project, and things didn’t improve until the two stars hashed it out during an impromptu therapy session with a producer. “The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing,” he said.

Katy Perry vs Taylor Swift: Once upon a time, the popstars used to be friends – but these days, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry seem to be more frenemies than BFFs. In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor spoke about a mysterious enemy who she says tried to sabotage her arena tour by attempting to “hire a bunch of people out from under me”. Many thought Taylor was talking about Katy, who had hired and there were rumours the song ‘Bad Blood’ was written about her. The pair also have a famous ex in common – singer John Mayer.

Kanye West vs Taylor Swift: Kanye famously interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs when he jumped on stage and grabbed the microphone to announce that Beyonce should have won instead. The pair looked to have settled their differences by last year’s VMAs, when Taylor presented Kanye with his Video Vanguard Award, but the lyrics to Kanye’s song ‘Famous’, from his album The Life of Pablo, seemed to reignite the war of words all over again.

Tom Cruise vs Brooke Shields:After Brooke Shields opened up about her battle with postpartum depression in her book Down Came the Rain, Tom Cruise slammed the star for using antidepressants, calling her “irresponsible” for suggesting that the medication cured her. Brooke fired back, “Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them”.
