Céline Dion has talked about how difficult she would find it to move on after the death of her beloved husband because he was the only man she’d been romantically involved with.
The 48-year-old singer was celebrating her 1000th Las Vegas show when she sat down with CBS’s Mo Rocca to talk about how she is carrying on with her career despite still grieving her late husband, René Angélil who died from throat cancer 10-months ago.
“Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us,” Dion said. “For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved.”
In a touching revelation Dion went on to confirm that she’d never kissed another man.
“Yeah. I never kissed another man in my life,” said Celine. “So the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So when he stopped suffering I said to myself, he’s okay. And he deserves not to suffer.”
Asked if she felt she could fall in love again, Dion said “not now.”
“I love. I love. I love him,” she said. “I’m still in love with him. And I have the love of my children. I have the love of my fans. I love the people that I work with. So my life is not empty of love. But there’s a song from Sia, ‘I go to sleep and imagine that you’re there with me.’ And I go to bed with him. And I come on stage with him. And so I’m still married to him.”
The legendary singer was just 12-years-old when she was introduced to René by her mother. He served as her manager but eventually the pair fell in love and wed in a lavish 1994 wedding.
Celine and Rene were married for more than 20 years and had three children together before he passed away in January.
