Celine Dion suffered a devastating loss when her beloved husband, Rene Angelil, passed away on January 14 this year after a long battle with cancer.

Now, the star is opening up about her plans to honour Rene with a permanent reminder of the love they shared.

In a video interview with Vogue, the superstar singer said she was thinking of getting Rene’s heartbeat inked on her body, despite her initial misgivings about the idea of getting tattoos.

Celine Dion has revealed potential plans to get a tattoo in honour of her late husband.

“You know, I’ve seen so many people that have tattoos when they’re young and then they get older and the name changes. It used to be Louise, and now it’s like, ‘Louis,’” she joked, when asked whether she preferred tattoos or piercings.

“It’s gravity, baby. It is going down!” she added.

However, losing her husband prompted a change in her thinking.

“Since my husband passed away, they can make the tattoo as this heartbeat. So I might have his heartbeat on my body for the rest of my life,” she explained.

Rene and Celine were married for 21 years and had three children together – 15-year-old Rene-Charles and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.

Rene, who served as Celine’s manager for several years, fought a long battle with cancer after first being diagnosed in 1999. The two met when Celine was just 12 years old and in the very early stages of her career in the music industry.

They eventually tied the knot in December 1994 when she was 26 and he was 52 – but despite the age difference, Celine says she knew the music manager was the one for her.

“I’m not surprised that we married each other, because we have the same dreams,” she said in 1995.

“We have the same goals. We respect each other.”

Celine suffered a double heartbreak after losing Rene when her brother Daniel died just a few days later, after his own battle with cancer.

The singer mourned him at a private service with family, one day after Rene’s national funeral at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica, where his son Rene-Charles delivered a touching eulogy in memory of his father.
