Brad Pitt “terrified the public will learn the truth”, claims Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has agreed to Brad Pitt's request to keep documents related to their custody battle private - but not without claiming he is "terrified" of what the public would learn from the filings.

The couple got tattoos meant to 'symbolically bind them as husband and wife' in February last year.

Back in December, Brad requested an emergency hearing to ask that all documents related to his custody battle with Angelina be sealed, after she filed unsealed documents of her own in an attempt to prevent him from changing their custody arrangement.

At the time, the Allied star’s legal team accused Angelina of putting the privacy of their six children – Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – at risk.

Angelina “apparently has no self-regulating mechanism to preclude sensitive information from being placed in the public record, or she has other motives,” Brad’s lawyer stated in his filing, adding that she had “exposed the children by making public the names of their therapists and other mental health professionals”.

However, Brad’s request was denied by the judge.

The couple have been waging an extended battle over custody of their six children.

Now, Angelina has agreed to keep the custody documents sealed, but she has accused Brad of lashing out because he’s “terrified that the public will learn the truth”, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

Brad is trying to “deflect from [his] own role in the media storm which has engulfed the parties’ children”, the documents state.

“There is little doubt that [Brad] would prefer to keep the entire case private, particularly given the detailed investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Dept. of Children and Family Services into allegation of abuse.”

Brad was investigated following an incident in September where he allegedly became drunk and got “physical” with his son Maddox, while the family were on board a private plane.

He was later cleared of the abuse allegations and the investigation was closed.

However, a source told People that even though Brad was cleared, his actions still had a significant impact on the kids.

Brad was cleared of abuse allegations by the FBI and the Department of Children and Family Services.

“They keep pointing to him being cleared. While his behavior didn’t amount to anything criminal, that doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything wrong,” says the source.

“The kids are traumatized. The mom has been protecting the kids by not revealing what really happened on that plane. Her interest since the outset hasn’t changed: to protect the health and safety of the kids.”

The former couple’s custody agreement gives Angelina physical custody of all six children, with Brad having agreed-upon therapeutic visitations scheduled by the family’s therapist. As well as this, a team of five mental health professionals are reportedly helping the family with “safe harbour therapy”. The agreement also confirms that Brad will continue to undergo drug and alcohol testing and individual and group therapy.

Insiders have been quick, however, to speculate that this set-up won’t be permanent.

The couple in happier times.
