Dishwasher

If you’ve just been using your Dishwasher to get your plates clean – you’ve been missing out! Just take a look at the whole host of other things you could be utilising the appliance for.

Clean your garden tools

Just put your secateurs and other grubby gardening tools onto the top rack, then run through a regular cycle until they’re sparkling clean.

Clean sponges

Got some manky sponges that need to be reinvigorated? Run them through the dishwasher with detergent to get rid of odours and give them a new lease of life.

Poach salmon

This truly is genius. Wrap a salmon fillet in tin foil, put it on the top rack and turn on the regular cycle (sans detergent – we don’t want soapy fish.)

Clean and cook potatoes

Place the spuds on the top rack, and turn on the rinse only cycle. When they come out, they’ll be clean and ready to mash!

Who knew there were so many hidden uses for the humble dishwasher?

Microwave

Maximise your juice

If you want to get a little more out of your fruit – pop it in the microwave for ten seconds, then squeeze it. Pretty nifty.

Make a homemade heat pad

Fill an old sock with rice, tie at the end, and then microwave for 60 seconds. Et voila! A heat pad that cost next to nothing.

Freezer

Make candles last longer

Apparently, candles kept in the freezer make them burn slower, so you’ll get more light from them.

Freshen up your jeans

Putting jeans in a freezer kills germs and freshens the fabric, preventing fading and cutting down on the ned to wash them. Pop them in a bag and into the freezer for a week.
