From hip-hop to politics: Rumour has it former Fugees star Wyclef Jean is about to announce his candidacy for president of the earthquake-devastated Caribbean island of Haiti.
The Haitian-born US resident is reportedly just waiting for paperwork so everything can be finalised for next week’s deadline. The election will be held on 28 November this year.
In 2005, Wyclef (37) founded the Yéle Haiti Foundation, which is heavily involved in charity on the island, especially education and scholarships. He’s taken his help to a new level since the massive quake that rocked Haiti in January.
This weekend, he told fans, “Haiti still needs our help more than ever. People around the world made lots of promises and we want those promises to be kept. My wife Claudinette and I are passionate about rebuilding Haiti.”
