British-Indian author Salman Rushdie has announced that he is getting divorced for the fourth time, from Indian actress and model Padma Lakshmi. The 60-year-old has revealed that the decision was Padma’s. A representative for the ‘Satanic Verses’ author says, “Salman Rushdie has agreed to divorce his wife Padma Lakshmi because of her desire to end their marriage. He asks that the media respect his privacy at this difficult time.”” The couple met in 1999 while the British author was still married to his third wife. [03 July 2007]
