Four years after qualifying for her free bus pass, Joanna Lumley says life as a senior citizen is ‘Absolutely Fabulous’! The 64-year-old grandmother insists, “I love it! It doesn’t feel like I’m 60, though. It’s so strange. You think, ‘Is this it? How odd!'”
The former star of ‘The New Avengers’ and ‘Sapphire and Steel’ reckons society is not as ageist as it used to be. She says, “When I was young, grandmothers looked like grey, permed, cardigan-wearing grannies, whereas our lot still rush to and fro, climbing mountains in whatever we do.”
Joanna continues, “I think it’s a shame that employers are so terribly keen on the idea of the workforce being young. I would love to employ somebody who had all the experience and skills already. But I do think that attitude is starting to change.”
She credits her vegetarian diet as keeping her looking young, adding that she takes catnaps during the day and watches how much she drinks. We doubt Ab Fab’s Patsy would be impressed by that last tip!
