The overinflated running time isn’t the only thing that lets this smash ‘n’ grab blockbuster down. Director Michael Bay seems to be living by the Mitre 10 Mega Man mantra that “big is good” when “less is more” is a better approach. Following a familiar formula of explosions, panning shots and objectification of the film’s token female hottie, Bay lives every 13-year-old boy’s fantasy as he destroys city after city with alien robots. The fourth instalment lacks laughs and will have even die-hard fans feeling restless.
