Mt Zion
Stan Walker makes his big-screen debut in this drama set around Bob Marley’s iconic 1979 visit to New Zealand. The singer plays Turei, a Pukekohe potato picker who dreams of performing on stage near his reggae idol. And The X Factor NZ judge proves he is not only a superb vocalist, but also a fine actor – speaking in te reo and English. This endearing flick steers away from clichés, but falters towards the end as it hastily ties up all the loose ends. Both the production and cinematography are first class, and Stan is well-supported by Temuera Morrison.
