At 51, Tom Cruise proves he’s still the action man in this slick blockbuster. Its shaky premise (some mumbo jumbo about time-travelling alien blood) is soon forgotten among its big budget set pieces, breathless momentum and Tom’s easy charm. It’s essentially Independence Day meets Groundhog Day but told on an impressive, grand scale. Though it won’t make you think, it will keep you amply entertained –and what more can you ask for from an alien invasion flick?
