BOOK REVIEW: Rosie Batty, A Mother’s Story

Sara Bunny reviews Bryce Corbett's memoir of Rosie Batty's courageous campaign against domestic violence.

In this intensely moving book by The Australian Women’s Weekly journalist Bryce Corbett, we are taken behind the headlines to meet the real Rosie Batty – a mother who in the face of the horrendous death of her son became a domestic violence crusader.

Rosie, who suffered years of abuse from her husband, tried to get protection, but in February 2014 Greg Anderson murdered 11-year-old Luke and was shot by police at the Tyabb cricket oval. Rosie believes it was his final act of control. But rather than curl up, she has taken the tragedy and used it to make a significant impact.

As a result, Australia will have its first royal commission into family violence, and commit an extra $30 million to protect women and children at high risk. This is the story of a woman with compassion, courage, grace and forgiveness in spades.
