Determined mum sits university exam while in labour

Just because I am considered a young mother doesn’t mean I have to be considered a bad mother.

A 21-year-old has shown incredible determination, sitting a psychology exam while in labour.

Tommitrise Collins found herself in this unenviable position when she was rushed to hospital after her waters broke five days earlier than expected.

In agony with contractions every three minutes on November 12, the student decided her university assessment was too important to skip.

So with no drugs to numb her pain, she completed the two-hour paper from her hospital bed.

The inspiring young woman finished the exam, then spent another five hours in labour before giving birth to her daughter, Tyler.

Tommitrise’s sister posted a picture of her taking the test on social media (above), which has since gone viral. She captioned the image: “This is what you call ‘Strong Priorities’. Contractions 3 minutes apart and still takes her Psychology Test! You are going to be a great Mom baby sis,” adding that she was “feeling proud” of her sister.

Tommitrise is a senior at Middle Georgia State University. When asked how she managed the arduous task, the focused student said it was a no-brainer.

“When you’re determined to do something, it’s really not that hard. I don’t want my GPA to drop – I need my A!” she told Daily Mail.

Her lecturer later told her that going into labour is “a pretty good excuse” for not sitting a test and that she could have postponed.

Even so, under such extraordinary circumstances, Tommitrise managed to score a B in the test, ensuring she can achieve an A- average.

Tommitrise, who is on a three-year basketball scholarship, hopes to inspire others with her story.

“[My] goal in life is always to motivate people,” she said.

After graduation next year, the young mum plans to begin a career in law enforcement. She has already been offered a deputy’s job with the Macon County Sheriff’s Deparment.
