Bindi Irwin honours her dad on the 12th anniversary of his death

One photo and just two words - and they absolutely break your heart.

Steve Irwin was one of the world’s most renowned conservationists and on Tuesday his daughter Bindi Irwin posted an emotional tribute on social media to to her father, 12 years after his death.

“Together forever,” she wrote alongside a picture of her family, mum Terri Irwin, brother Robert and her larger-than-life late dad Steve Irwin.

Steve Irwin was honoured posthumously on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame only a few months ago.

It was just a few months ago that Steve Irwin was honoured posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I’ll remember today forever. Such an emotional moment and beautiful chapter in our lives,” Bindi later captioned an Instagram photo.

Her speech on the day was a lot tougher to get out.

“We want to make sure everything he lived and died for continues on into the future,” she said.

Bindi, who recently turned 20, apologised for getting emotional, before lunging to hug her mother who stood by her side.

“Really, [this is] a culmination of a lot of work from a lot of people who believe that Steve should totally get this recognition,” Terri told 7 News.

The Australian icon was tragically killed by a stingray off the coast of Port Douglas.

Many remember Steve Irwin, 44, as the fearless Crocodile Hunter, but for wife Terri, he was the love of her life.

“To me, Steve was my Prince Charming. He was my happily ever after. I still feel immense love and loyalty to Steve,” the brave mother-of-two previously said of her soulmate.

In an interview earlier this year Terri said that finding a new partner has never been on the cards for her.

“I always felt with Steve, if I didn’t marry Steve I wouldn’t have gotten married. I wasn’t dating, I wasn’t even looking. I was 27 years old and thought my life would be work. Then I met Steve and fell in love.

“I just feel that we had that soulmate thing. In the 10 years since, I haven’t dated and thought about it because I’m not afraid to be on my own, it’s just really hard not having Steve… I’m lonely for Steve if that makes sense?

“The meaning of life is unconditional love… if you can achieve that, I think you’re set!”

Bindi and Robert lost their dad and hero when they were just eight and three years old, respectively.
