TVNZ has confirmed Bernadine Oliver-Kerby (44) has been cut from the weekend news show she presented with Peter Williams.

After Bernadine failed to return to the One News desk after the summer break, tongues wagged about whether she had been cut.

But TVNZ remained tight-lipped on the matter, stating the presenter was on leave, and did not specify when she would return.

Today, the network issued a statement confirming the popular newsreader’s departure as a full time employee, after a 20 year career at TVNZ.

She will still provide cover for weekday bulletins on the network.

Over the course of her sparkling career, Bernadine covered high profile events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Rugby and Netball World Cup, plus many more.

TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs, John Gillespie, said: “We are mindful that weekends won’t be the same without Bernadine, and are delighted that Bernadine will provide cover for the weeknight news”.

Peter Williams will now continue to present the weekend news bulletins on his own, while the weeknight news show will retain two newsreaders.

Newsreader Peter has worked with TVNZ for over 30 years.
