A woman left paralysed due to a devastating accident is inspiring millions pursuing her yoga dream.

35-year-old Tiffany Joiner has been a yoga fanatic since travelling to India in 2006.

But when a devastating accident in Dubai paralysed her from the waist down, it seemed the Londoner’s yoga dreams may well be over.

After plunging almost 8 meters off a balcony and losing movement in her lower body at just 28, Tiffany could have easily fallen into a deep depression. Instead, she turned to yoga, and has now qualified as a yoga instructor for disabled people.

“I couldn’t bear to admit to myself that I was different, changed, damaged and I think that’s why I didn’t crumble,” she said.

“Instead I threw myself into my new life.”

The inspirational woman has travelled through South America alone, been quad biking, scuba diving and gone through underground mines – all in a bid to prove that disability does not have to hold you back.

Yoga has always been a part of Tiffany’s life, even before her accident. She had moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2006 to undergo a yoga training course.

One night Tiffany and her then-boyfriend returned to their flat after dinner and fallen asleep, before he woke up at 3am to the sound of her sobs.

“Somehow in the middle of the night I had fallen off the balcony, it’s a great mystery, nobody knows why or how it happened,” she explains of the moment that changed her life forever.

Tiffany has now moved to London and is helping with adaptive yoga classes. She’s described how it’s “amazing” being able to help people, and prove to those with disabilities that their bodies are capable of amazing things.
