Kiwi broadcasterJason Gunn has had a rough time of it lately, suffering a heart attack in February and breaking two vertebrae after tumbling out of a wheelie bin near his home in early 2016.
His latest medical scrape has seen him collapse on a plane, mid-flight, and it was a vet who came to the rescue and treated him.
The 48-year-old dad-of-three was on a flight between Queenstown and Christchurch on July 22 when he passed out, after overdosing on heart medication.
A flight attendant asked for help and Queenstown vet Ngaire Dixon stepped in.
”He came around about five minutes before we landed, so it would have been 20 minutes he was quite critical for. He was pretty sick but we managed to get him through it – there were a lot of sick bags passed backwards and forwards,” Dixon told the Otago Daily Times.
Dixon said she was used to dealing with animals that have overdosed or have heart problems and the human experience is similar – the main difference being that Gunn didn’t try to “bite or scratch her”.
Gunn has thanked and praised Dixon on his More FM radio show.
“I was feeling quite sick, quite nauseous,” he told listeners, “I thought ‘I’m going to pass out’.”
He said he thought he may have been suffering another heart attack, before he collapsed.
