After the shocking conviction of Erin Patterson last week, the world’s biggest streaming platforms are already fighting it out to be the first TV network to turn the mushroom murders into an unmissable true-crime series.

First off the chopping block is Netflix, which is reportedly cooking up a telemovie about the deadly lunch, already earmarking Love Child and Home And Away actress Mandy McElhinney for the leading part.

“Mandy’s perfect for the role of Erin,” an insider tells Woman’s Day.
“She’s very talented and experienced with dramatic roles.”

Mandy, 54, starred alongside Sir Sam Neill in The House Of Hancock and opposite Rachel Griffiths in Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, in which she played Woman’s Day editor Nene King. However, she’s
best known in her native Australia for her role in a series of AAMI insurance ads. Over at rival Aussie streamer Stan, a three-part docu-drama called Death Cap is in post-production and is set to premiere this year.

Death Cap promises “exclusive access” into the investigation and trial of Patterson. A teaser also claims the series will explore how “a seemingly ordinary family lunch becomes a global media story when four guests fall critically ill, with three later dying”.
Stan adds that the doco will also explore whether Patterson’s trial was truly fair amid the global media frenzy.
