Wedding of the week: Liz and Robbie Scott

Flooding and bad weather didn't stop this couple's nuptials.

It’s wedding season, and we’re celebrating at Now To Love by publishing your wedding stories. See details at the bottom of this story to find out how your wedding can appear on Now To Love.

Liz and Robbie Scott tied the knot at ‘The Woolshed’ in the Matakana Country Park on March 12th, 2017. The date marked the couple’s seventh anniversary and what better way to celebrate.

The couple celebrated with all their friends and family, including guests who had flown in from the UK, US and Australia.

Despite a weekend of terrible weather and flooding, the couple caught a break long enough to get some gorgeous photos outside.

Their wedding was a fun and casual occasion, with all the traditional elements you’d expect and a few additional surprises.

Guests at the wedding received a surprise at the start of the ceremony when one of Liz’s best friends and bridesmaids stepped out of the bridal party line-up to announce she was also their celebrant.

Liz runs Recycled Weddings who offer ‘Green’ inspired weddings, so it was only fitting that her own wedding embraced this too! Their wedding was made up of a collection of items borrowed from friends and family, bought second hand or DIY crafted by Liz and close family members.

Being a DIY wedding meant that there was a lot of additional work that went in from friends and family to make the day perfect. The couple say that every detail had a personal connection of some kind and they wanted to include as many friends and family as possible. Robbie’s cousin made their wedding cake, a long-time family friend did the flowers and Robbie’s nana sewed the table cloths and napkins.

Their reception featured an American BBQ (Big Smoke BBQ Co.) for dinner and a DIY ice-cream bar for dessert, that saw guests lining up.

The couple say that they have never seen a dance floor go off like theirs did at their wedding. The wedding band ‘The Drive’ got everyone on their feet and dancing long into the night.
