Is The Block Australia host Scott Cam planning his departure?

After 14 years, the beloved host is hanging up his tool belt

He’s famous for his jovial nature, but Scott Cam is looking rather annoyed on this season of The Block Australia and he’s been openly critical of the contestants, saying they’re “less resilient” than those of the past.

“Who’s running this show?” Scotty, 62, was caught chastising contestant Courtney McInnes, 32, on camera. Well, we hear it won’t be him for much longer…

During the filming of this series, the TV host made it quite clear that he’d do just one more series, then quit The Block – and it was Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechley quitting the show that was the last straw.

“It really shocked him and made him even more determined to walk away in 2025,” a show insider tells Woman’s Day. “Scott holds The Block very dear to his heart. He couldn’t understand why anyone would leave his hit series and the highly emotional decision they made. It reinforced to him the idea of leaving on a high to spend more time with his family.”

Scott has fronted the reality hit since 2010.

The TV star’s decision wasn’t spur-of-the-moment, our source continues. “In 2023, rumours flew, saying he was leaving. They were quickly squashed though, when Scott announced he had signed a new deal. It was a two-year contract to keep him on board as host of this 20th-anniversary series and the next one.”

According to the insider, that’s why it was announced the next series of The Block would be filmed in rural Daylesford, 90 minutes northwest of Melbourne, last year.

“It was part of a grand plan for Scott to leave on a high with two very different and challenging seasons of the reno show. One would’ve been set on an island and the other in the country,” explains our source. Apparently the Daylesford properties were supposed to feature in this 20th season of The Block. However, they ran into problems with council permits, so the 21st season’s Phillip Island location was brought forward.

“Scott was bitterly disappointed Daylesford didn’t go ahead,” tells the insider. “He has been openly telling friends he wants to see the Daylesford season happen and then bow out graciously.”

Paige called Scotty’s criticism of this year’s contestants “distasteful”.

Scott’s made it clear he’s loved his gig on The Block. Yet, he has admitted it’s a huge commitment and often seeps into his precious home life.

“I’m a family man, but I work every Sunday for about three months of the year,” says the star, who has son Charlie, 28, plus 25-year-old twins Bill and Sarah, with his wife of 30 years, Ann.

And even viewers have noticed he seems to be ready to walk away and get his weekends back. “It feels like he’s been winding down for a while now,” one fan posted recently. Although, Aussie network Nine insists, “Scott Cam has no plans to step down from The Block.”

The man himself admitted in 2020, “I will retire at some point. I love telly and I love the job, but it’s not an essential part of my life. I’m definitely going to be going another three to four years into my early sixties.”
