After last night’s shocking episode of The Real Housewives of Auckland, Julia Sloane and Michelle Blanchard have both released public statements regarding the racial slur that aired during the show.

“While in Port Douglas filming for Real Housewives of Auckland I made an off-camera and off-the-cuff inappropriate comment which caused hurt to Michelle. I wasn’t thinking, I made a mistake and I have apologised several times to Michelle for my remark,” wrote Julia on her Facebook page.

There is no excuse for using offensive words under any circumstances and I have learned from this foolish mistake.”

Michelle also posted two public statements to her own Facebook.

“Hi everyone, I think it’s important for everyone to realise the tremendous hurt that can be caused by a carelessly offensive remark. I hope Julia has learned a valuable life lesson. I wish her no ill will, and we now have a professional working relationship. It’s onwards and upwards for me. Thanks for all your support, Michelle,” read the first.

The second statement was accompanied by a photo of the reality star.

“Hello from London, I hope this episode isn’t to uncomfortable to watch, but it’s better to face uncomfortable issues rather to simply ignore them. Love all your support and feedback, thank you all.”

These statements follow the disclaimer made by TV network Bravo last Sunday, posted prior to the episode airing.

“Episode Six of Real Housewives of Auckland deals with an incident where a cast member makes an offensive comment to another cast member. We have taken this matter very seriously. Bravo has given much consideration to ensuring the events are accurately represented, in order that the context of the remark and subsequent events, can be fully understood.

“While the nature of Bravo programming is unscripted, it is a deeply regrettable incident which we are endeavouring to deal with in a responsible manner.”
