Rotorua’s Te Takinga marae, on the shores of Lake Rotoiti, is a special place that’s all about whanau for actress Cian Elyse White.
But it’s also a special place for the group she calls “my second family”, the cast and crew of her hit series 800 Words.
Welcoming Woman’s Day into the wharenui of her spiritual home, Cian, 28, reveals how the TVNZ 1 show’s leading man Erik Thomson organised an overnight stay at the marae for an adventurous group of stars, with hot pools, a hangi and karaoke all on the agenda.
“He thought it was really important for us to sleep together under the same roof and immerse ourselves in the culture, especially for the Australian cast because they live here for such long periods,” tells Cian.
