The Queen’s coffin has officially arrived at Buckingham Palace for one of the final stages of its journey from Her Majesty’s place of death at Balmoral.
King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, the Queen’s daughter Princess Anne, as well as Princes William and Harry and their wives, Catherine and Meghan, were there for the occasion.
A crowd of thousands gathered at the gates, despite the miserable weather, to pay their respects to the longest serving monarch.

An official statement from the royal family read: “Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin has arrived at Buckingham Palace, where it will rest overnight in the Bow Room.
“Tomorrow the coffin will be borne in Procession on a Gun Carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery to the Palace of Westminster.”
The moving of the coffin comes after The Queen’s children all partook in the years-long tradition of the Vigil of the Princes in St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The four siblings joined the Royal Company of Archers, who are tasked with guarding The Queen’s casket during its time in the Cathedral, for about 10 minutes as members of the public paid their respects.
The coffin was draped in the Royal Standard of Scotland and topped with a floral wreath and the Crown of Scotland.

For the symbolic stand, King Charles wore a Scottish kilt and stood at the head of the coffin.
His wife, Queen Consort Camilla and Edward’s wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex also sat nearby for the ceremony.

The Queen’s funeral is to fall on Monday 19th September at 10pm NZST.
Following the service, a gun carriage procession will take The Queen’s coffin past Buckingham Palace and arrive at Hyde Park Corner at 1 pm.
The coffin will be moved to a hearse and move towards Windsor Castle, where a committal service will be held at 4 pm at St George’s chapel.
Following the service, the coffin will be lowered into the Royal Vault.
