Prince William and Prince Harry teamed up for a special renovation project in Manchester yesterday, putting their hard hats on to help transform a series of derelict houses into new homes for returned ex-servicemen and women.

The royals joined the BBC’s DIY SOS team to add the final touches to the building project, which involved renovating eight buildings, streetscaping the entire street and constructing a training and counselling centre on-site.

The team behind the project, designed to benefit veterans in need of housing, will also appear on BBC One next month in The Big Build: Veteran’s Special.

Assisting returned servicemen and women has been an important focus for both William and Harry, with Harry spearheading the inaugural Invictus Games – an international Paralympic-style event for disabled veterans – last year.

“The Duke and Prince Harry will continue to draw attention to the challenges facing ex-service personnel transitioning to civilian life,” Kensington Palace said on Twitter.

William and Harry have both been busy of late, with the duo recently making an appearance at the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony along with the Duchess of Cambridge. Harry, who turned 31 last week, also took part in the anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Britain, where he gave up his seat in a Spitfire plane so a veteran could take his place instead.
