Zayn Malik scores first solo number one with ‘Pillowtalk’

Former One Direction star Zayn Malik is set to nab his first number one hit as a solo artist, despite pulling out of yet another interview

The singer was due to appear on a BBC Radio 1 show yesterday to promote his raunchy new single ‘Pillowtalk’, which has shot to the top of the charts since its release last week.

The sultry song, which features Zayn’s real-life flame Gigi Hadid in the accompanying music video, is projected to reach number one on the UK charts and is already at the top spot on Spotify.

Fans have been dying to see the 23-year-old singer promote his new track, but Zayn left many feeling disappointed after cancelling on Greg James’ radio show half an hour before he was due to go on air.

Those who had lined up outside the studios took to Twitter to voice their dismay, with one fan writing, “You had us all waiting at BBC today and you never came. I’m gutted.”

“Radio 1 has supported Zayn from day one so it’s very disappointing for all the UK fans not to see him. They had so many people outside the studios and Greg had some big surprises lined up,” a source told The Daily Mail.

The BBC radio no-show marks Zayn’s second cancelled appearance in less than a week, after he also bailed on The Graham Norton Show. The appearance would have been his first solo TV interview since leaving the band that made him famous.
