It was the series that made Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff global stars, and now it’s getting a modern update with Hollywood hunks Zac Efron and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson!
The two have been confirmed to star in an all-new Baywatch film based on the iconic 1990s series. While production isn’t expected to start until next year, Variety reveals the new film will take a comedic approach. Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Greg Bonnan (the original producers of the television series) are back as executive producers for the movie, and Seth Gordon (the man behind Identity Thief and Horrible Bosses) has been announced as director.
The movie is the latest in a series of comedy films for Zac, who was most recently seen in Bad Neighbours and Are We Officially Dating?). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will focus on a “by-the-book” lifeguard (played by Dwayne Johnson) who must team up with Zac’s “rule-flouting hothead” to save their beach from a greedy oil tycoon.
