What motivates Laura McGoldrick

The sports presenter reveals why her mum is her biggest inspiration.

She’s graced the small screen since 2009 on Sky Sport’s The Cricket Show, and now the host of New Zealand Herald’s Focus shares how she takes time to relax and her go-to de-stress exercise.

Inspiration

My mother [sports manager Leanne McGoldrick] has worked in a male-dominated industry for most of her life and has never let it faze her. She has amazing confidence and I’m so lucky to have her.

Feed me

I love cooking, although I don’t always have a lot of time. I love cooking for my husband when he’s home. My favourite treat is ice cream, especially Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough. It’s my go-to treat every now and then.

Getting away

My favourite place in New Zealand is Queenstown. I love going there with my husband [Black Cap Martin Guptill]. We go for walks, eat out at beautiful restaurants and play golf. Perfect!

Relaxation

I find exercise a great way to take time out so I make sure I schedule in an hour every day where I can do that. Some days a 10km run is my favourite way to exercise, sometimes I might not be feeling 100 per cent, so an hour-long walk is perfect for me.

My three favourite beauty products are:

MAC Mineralize highlighting powder, Cetaphil Cleanser and La Mer face cream.

Finish these sentences…

When I’m feeling stressed… I know I need to put my phone down and go for a walk or run.

The reason I get out of bed each morning is… because I love what I do, and I love the amazing people I have in my life.

The piece of advice I’d give my 13-year-old self is… your mistakes do not define you. Own them; learn from them and move forward.

The best trip I ever went on was… to Hawaii with my husband. I loved it because we got engaged!

If I could go on holiday tomorrow, I would… want to go to New York and the number one thing I’d want to do there would be to drink coffee in Times Square.

All women should know… how amazing we are.
