It looks like there’s more heartbreak ahead for devoted Directioners!

Just days after releasing the music video for their first official single without Zayn Malik, the remaining members of the mega-popular boyband are said to be planning an extended hiatus to focus on their own projects.

The break will begin in March, but the split won’t be permanent, according to reports, as Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan remain close friends. However, that does mean there won’t be a tour to promote the band’s upcoming fifth album, which is sure to come as a disappointment to their many fans.

“The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boy band. They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects,” a source told The Sun.

“There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100% behind the decision. It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future.”

The shocking news comes almost five months after Zayn first announced he was leaving the band to be a “normal 22-year-old” living his life out of the spotlight. However, he later announced he was signing a solo record deal with label RCA – and it seems his former bandmates could be following in his footsteps with their own solo ventures!

Update: The boys have spoken out about the sad news and have confirmed they will be taking a break next year:
