Despite getting his own start on Australian Idol and presiding as judge over five seasons of The X Factor Australia, Guy Sebastian has slammed the concept of TV talent shows in a new interview.

Appearing on KIIS FM, the singer opened up about his regret at appearing on X Factor last year and said he has no plans to do any other shows in the near future.

“I decided that last year and they came to me and said, ‘Do X Factor, it’s only five weeks, it’s a very short stint,’” Guy revealed.

“So I did it and I can’t say I was in it, I didn’t feel like I was in it.”

The revelations come after the news that The X Factor Australia won’t be coming back this year, following a disappointing reception in 2016. At the time, Guy was joined on the judging panel by Iggy Azalea, Mel B and Adam Lambert.

However, Guy says “it’s good that [the show is] going on a break”.

“I think we just need to let talent … mature a little bit, we need to let the pool of talent develop. I think everything has its time and we’re so saturated with all of this stuff and it’s probably a good time for it to be rested,” he continued.

The father-of-two also had strong words for fellow talent show The Voice, which he says is full of contestants who also tried their luck on The X Factor.

“People have a mentality of jumping from show to show now,” he said.
