The child abuse allegations against Brad Pitt have been referred over to the FBI, reports TMZ.

This referral is because the incident occurred in the air during a flight from France to the U.S, so the FBI has jurisdiction.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) have reportedly interviewed both Brad and Angelina separately and will interview each of their six children regarding the incident.

Brad Pitt is being investigated by the LAPD and LA County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) for allegedly becoming verbally abusive and physical with his children, according to TMZ.

The media outlet alleges that Brad became drunk while on board a flight with his family last Wednesday and reportedly got physical with his kids. TMZ’s sources say Brad’s behaviour continued on the tarmac after the plane landed, and the actor even tried to leave in one of the fuel trucks.

A witness reportedly alerted the DCFS, who TMZ says interviewed both stars and have plans to talk to the children as well.

However, a source close to Brad has denied the claims, telling TMZ, “He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”

Angelina Jolie filed for divorce on Monday after two years of marriage and over a decade together with her movie star husband.

While there were rumours Brad had gotten too close to co-star Marion Cotillard on the set of their upcoming spy thriller Allied, an attorney for Angelina said the actress made the decision to split “for the health of the family”.

Officially, Angelina cited irreconcilable differences as the reasoning behind the divorce.

The couple reportedly listed their date of separation as September 15 – one day after the alleged incident on the plane. According to TMZ, it was this episode that sparked Angelina’s decision to separate and then file for divorce.

Angelina requested sole physical custody of the couple’s six children – Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
