There’s a new All Black baby on the way, with vice-captain and Highlanders captain Ben Smith announcing the impending arrival of his second child.
Already a dad to 23-month-old Annabelle, Ben and his gorgeous wife Katie will be adding to their family in a few months’ time.
Along with stunning family photos taken at the family bach in Wanaka, Ben and Katie, in their trademark low-key and down-to-earth manner, exclusively tell New Zealand Woman’s Weekly they’re “stoked” they’ll be welcoming a little brother or sister for Annabelle.
“We’re really excited… the thought of two is a little scary though!” Ben says.
Adds former triathlete Katie, “We’re really ready to have another baby. At least this time we’ll be ready for whatever comes!”
The news that the couple, who married in a stunning ceremony in Wanaka two years ago, are expecting again tops off an incredible few years. In 2015 alone, they celebrated their wedding, Annabelle’s birth, the Highlanders winning the Super Rugby competition and, of course, the All Blacks’ Rugby World Cup victory.
But it just keeps getting better for the duo, who say that family is everything.
When the Weekly catches up with them during their break away to their cosy holiday home in the stunning central Otago town, Ben says spending time with his girls before he begins training with the Highlanders for the 2017 season is priceless.
“Coming here, to Wanaka, is so special. I have to make sure that when I’m home, I’m home, you know? It’s having that quality time.”
