Beauty fix: Cellulite

All the signs, symptoms and ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

No matter what you weigh, dimpled ‘orange peel’ skin can plague the thighs.

About Face’s Glucina studied with Clarins founder Jacques Courtin-Clarins in Paris many years ago, where she learnt that cellulite is caused by a variety of factors, including hormones, lifestyle and stress.

Unfortunately, some body types are more prone to developing cellulite, such as women with curves (a small waist and larger hips and breasts).

“Drinking water helps – each day you should drink 0.033 litre of water for every kilogram of bodyweight. So if you weigh 65kg, you should drink 2.145 litres of water, and for every glass of coffee or tea you consume, you need to have an extra glass of water as caffeine dehydrates you,” says Glucina.

Walking or any type of exercise that gets the blood pumping and the lymphatic system moving can help prevent cellulite, as can maintaining a healthy diet containing minimal processed foods.

Glucina says stimulating the area in the shower with a brush or massage is also beneficial.

Try:

Clarins Body Lift Cellulite Smoother, $110, targets both new and stubborn cellulite and should be applied using the brand’s specially developed anti-cellulite self-massage technique.

Manicare Cellulite Bristle Body Brush, $20, has 100% natural bristles on one side and nodules on the other to massage tired muscles and exfoliate skin.

Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator, $62, is gentle enough to be used daily to slough away dead skin cells for beautifully soft skin.
