5 steps to natural summer make-up

Enhance your natural beauty while concealing your rough spots with barely there make-up.
5 steps to natural summer make-up

Casual summer days call for an understated nude look, but don’t think nude means no make-up at all. It takes a bit of work to look like yourself – only better. Try these five steps to natural summer make-up.

Natural make-up look step 1 and 2

1. Eyes

Stick to soft, satin shadows that match your skin tone such as shell pinks, muted browns and golden beiges. Apply to the whole lid, and if you need more definition, use a brown liner on the upper lashline. Mascara can still be bold. My absolute favourite right now is Lancôme Grandiôse, $60.

2. Brows

Comb and slick into place with a little skin balm or a clear setting gel such as MAC Brow Set $36.

3. Complexion

What you’re aiming for is a light coverage with the natural texture of the skin still showing through. BB creams and tinted moisturisers are ideal for this. Concealers can be used to hide any blemishes, dark circles or pigmentation. If you need more coverage, Bobbi Brown’s new Skin Weightless Powder Foundation, $80 gives a semi-matte, healthy skin finish and is ideal for toning down shine. Use a fluid formula for a dewier look – I like Revlon Nearly Naked, $31.95. Apply primer first.

4. Cheeks

Bronzer is your go-to for adding colour. For daytime wear, don’t be tempted by anything too bright and sparkly, and apply sparingly.

5. Lips

Nude/brown lipsticks can be harsh, particularly on more mature faces. Instead, choose a lippy with a peach or pinky hue. Oh, and never wear a lipstick that is paler than the natural colour of your lips, as you’ll look washed out.
