Woman kicked out of shopping mall for “inappropriate” Finding Nemo top

The student's cartoon top and denim shorts outfit was reported to mall staff and she was escorted out by security guards.

While we’re all currently wrapping up warm for winter, on the other side of the world in Michigan summer temperatures have soared to 90 degrees.

Last weekend, Hannah Pewee was out shopping on a hot day wearing a singlet with a Finding Nemo picture on it and the slogan “just keeping swimming”.

The student paired her animated Pixar top with a pair of denim shorts and sneakers.

Partway through her shopping trip, another shopper reported the young woman to the mall head office for her “inappropriate outfit”, and she was then escorted out by security guards.

Enraged by the incident, Pewee posted a photo of herself on Facebook and explained what had happened.

“I was out having a fun time with my sister and next thing I know, I’m out on the street,” Pewee wrote in the post.

“Slut-shaming how girls are dressed is deplorable and outdated, and it needs to stop.”

The post has now been shared more than 7,000 times, and most people supported her thoughts, noting the danger of policing women on the way they dress.

She later followed up with another post, writing she had spoken with management at the Woodland Mall, who apologized and told her “they’re going to revise their clothing policy on their website so it is clearer what is and isn’t acceptable.”
