Isla Fisher reveals no one recognised her while in NZ

The star tells all about going incognito on her recent Kiwi holiday

While Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon have been happily sharing snaps of their Kiwi travels, another Hollywood star managed to go completely unrecognised during her own trip to our shores.

Australian actress Isla Fisher has revealed she enjoyed an “incredible” three-week campervan trip around New Zealand with her family. The Keeping Up with the Joneses star is married to actor and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, with whom she shares children Olive, Elula and Montgomery.

Speaking to The Times magazine, Isla confessed she was only stopped by one star-struck fan while she was in Queenstown – but it was a case of mistaken identity.

Isla, Sacha and their kids recently travelled around New Zealand in a campervan.

“A friendly lady and her young daughter came over and congratulated me on my performance in [the Amy Adams film] Enchanted. Her daughter then asked me to sing one of the songs from the film,” she said.

“I was too embarrassed to correct her and I managed to warble out a few verses. I could tell by their faces that they had realised, based on my cat-dying-in-an-alley singing voice, that I was not Amy Adams, and beat a hasty retreat.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time the flame-haired actress has been mistaken for the similarly redheaded Amy Adams.

The two even starred in Tom Ford’s second directorial effort, Nocturnal Animals, together, where Isla actually plays a fictional version of Amy’s character within the film.

“It’s very important to the story that these characters resemble each other. I was absolutely struck by the similarities of their appearance, but also by their ability to act,” Tom told Entertainment Tonight.

Isla herself has had a bit of fun with her doppelganger, telling the Today show that she once swapped out an image of her face with one of Amy’s on her family holiday card.

“I cut-and-pasted Amy Adams’ face over mine, so it was Sacha, Amy, and the kids, and then we said, ‘Seasons greetings from Sacha and Isla’ … And no one noticed,” she confessed.

“Everyone was like, ‘Oh your card was so cute. I was like, it’s a joke, it’s not me, it’s Amy!”
