‘Pop Ya Collar’ singer Usher has an extra-special reason to mourn the death of James Brown, dubbed “The Godfather of Soul”.
The 28-year-old duetted with James at the 2005 Grammy Awards, when the elder musician anointed Usher “The Godson of Soul”.
Usher tells, “It couldn’t have been more of a pleasure to be recognised by James. He introduced me to soul. Because of him, I was given a clear view of what a real performance is and should be. I learned showmanship from him. James was in a class by himself.”
The two stars were reunited in october 2005 for a benefit for families affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Usher says, “He was so happy. His support showed me so much about his character. James was a giver. He earned his name as the hardest-working man in showbusiness. My Dynamite, The Godfather of Soul, I will miss him.”
