one of Britain’s most influential designers has committed suicide at the age of 40. Style guru Alexander ocQueen was found hanged in his London apartment just a week after the death of his mother and three years after the suicide of his close friend and mentor Isabella Blow. He had recently posted a message to fans saying he’d had an “awful week, but my friends have been great. Now I have to somehow pull myself
together.”
‘British Vogue’ editor Alexandra Shulman paid tribute to Alexander, saying, “He was the most brilliant designer of his generation and his influence can be seen in the way that women dressed over the last 15 years. It is an incredible loss not only for British fashion but for fashion the world over.”
Alexander had won British designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003. He has dressed everyone from Victoria Beckham to Sandra Bullock, and designed suits for Prince Charles and oikhail Gorbachev.
