WATCH: Everyone’s favourite 90s icon returns to TV

But he wasn't with his usual sidekick, Jason Gunn.

He disappeared in 1995, but everyone’s favourite Kiwi children’s television icon is back.

Thingee first appeared on New Zealand television in 1992, alongside Jason Gunn, on the after school show Son of a Gunn, before leaving New Zealand “for his home planet” three years later.

Aside from a short appearance on Jono & Ben, next to nothing has been seen of the popular puppet – until now.

Thingee was a surprise guest during the cricket test between the Black Caps and Bangladesh in Wellington over the weekend.

Joining the Dilmah Tea Party host Laura McGoldrick, he gave viewers an in-depth tour of what goes into Sky’s cricket coverage.

“James is the director, he talks all the time and sometimes people listen to him. He knows a lot about cricket, and some of it’s even interesting,” he said.
