Teriyaki steaks and tossed vegetables

4 sirloin steaks (or other cut)

¼ cup soy sauce

2 tbsp mirin

1 clove garlic, crushed

2 tsp brown sugar

2 cups button mushrooms, cut in half

2 bunches bok choy, cut lengthways

into 8 pieces

5 spring onions, finely sliced

  1. Place steaks in a flat, non-metallic dish. Mix soy sauce, mirin, garlic and brown sugar together and pour over steaks. oarinate for 30 minutes.

  2. Remove steaks from marinade and cook in a large frying pan over a high heat or on a barbecue for 3 to 4 minutes each side. Remove to a heated ovenproof dish. Cover and rest meat for 5 minutes.

  3. Add mushrooms, bok choy, spring onions and water to pan. Cover and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Drain. Divide vegetables among four plates. Cut the steaks into thin slices and serve with vegetables and steamed rice.
