Rumours were rife that rock legend Steven Tyler was leaving Aerosmith after 35 years with the iconic band. However, the man himself was disputed the reports from the red carpet of the 2009 Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London. Steve asked journalists, “Does it look like I’m leaving Aerosmith? “
He added that the gossip was most likely a PR exercise for his bandmate Joe Perry’s music, saying, “You know what it is? It’s those people who are putting out Joe’s album. Joe’s doing a solo album, so people are paying attention to that.”
But while it may not be true that Steven’s quitting Aerosmith, music industry insiders say the other band members are desperate for him to leave the group because he’s too focused on his solo career. We’re told they’re considering “either the announcement of a long hiatus or carrying on with a new lead vocalist”.
After their recent Abu Dhabi concerts, Steven and Joe both hinted at internal troubles. Steven said of the gigs, “I don’t know what I’m doing [next], but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler, working on the brand of myself – Brand Tyler.”
Meanwhile, Joe told fans, “Steven’s got to get his act together. He and I haven’t written a song together in over 10 years, so there’s been some changes in what Aerosmith is.” Watch this space!
