Veteran actress Sophia Loren was furious to discover she had been left off the invite list for the first Rome Film Festival. organisers of the festival, which took place last weekend, belatedly sent the Italian siren a last minute invite once they’d realised their faux-pas – but this only added insult to injury. According to her sister, Maria Scicolone, the pair “sat at home and ate chocolates” instead. Maria adds, “A last-minute invitation does not seem to me the proper way to go about things. Sophia is not exactly an unknown.” Ironically, Sophia featured prominently in a festival exhibition commemorating the glory days of Italian cinema. [17 october 2006]
