Never one to shy away from controversy, Sean Penn has slammed cynics who criticised his recent trip to Haiti. The 49-year-old actor travelled to the impoverish Caribbean country in January with 11 doctors in order to help victims of the devastating earthquake.
However, some have snidely commented that Sean only went in order to rebuild his image in the wake of his divorce with actress Robin Wright and that celebrities should stay out of aid efforts. Critics have also come out saying that stars such as Sean are nothing but hypocrites as they complain publicly about the injustice of others, only to return to their Hollywood mansions and lavish lifestyles.
Sean says the negative chatter doesn’t bother him but he’d still like to see his detractors suffer. He fumes, “I guess I’ve been so away from it all – at our tent camp in Haiti – that I haven’t had an awful lot of time to pay attention to them. You know, do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah. You know, but I’m not going to spend a lot of energy on it.”
