Downton Abbey is getting a splash of royalty as Fiona Ogilvy, granddaughter of the Queen’s cousin, Princess Alexandra of Kent, joins the popular series.

The 18-year-old, who is 45th in line to the thrown, will be an extra in the upcoming series and has filmed scenes with Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville, according to UK newspaper Daily Express.

“There’s a lot of excitement among the royals and they will almost certainly be watching the new series now,” an insider told the newspaper.

“Everyone’s really proud of Fiona for bagging a role in such a big show at such a young age and for doing it off her own back. Fiona has made a good impression during her time on set, so there’s a good chance she’ll get asked back for future series.”

Downton Abbey has had the royal nod of approval: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge told Jessica Brown Findlay, who played Lady Sybil Crawley in the Prime drama, that she and Prince William were “huge fans of the show”.
