Prince Charles has shown that the royal family are not immune to the global financial crisis by laying off staff at his Duchy organic food firm. The company was founded by the Prince in 1990 to promote organic food and farming and all the profits are distributed via the Prince’s Charities Foundation to a selection of worthy causes. The company has culled it’s workforce from 23 full-time staff members to just 16 and reduced it’s product line from from 300 to 170. Referring to the measures, Duchy originals boss Andrew Baker said, “They are, of course, regrettable but necessary at a time when we have to manage our budget as carefully as we can.” The items are also being reduced in size and price so that they are more affordable for the average shopper.
