The president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has praised Tyra Banks for featuring a transgender contestant in her show ‘America’s Next Top Model’. Neil Giuliano says, “This is an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is under-represented on television. We applaud Tyra for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible.” The contestant, Isis, is a 22-year-old who describes herself as “a woman born physically a man” and will feature in the 11th series of ‘Top Model’, which screens next month in the US.
