She thought she was simply arriving for a hiking holiday, but our tough immigration department had a different idea for infamous Australian politician Pauline Hanson when she arrived in the country the other day.
Pulling the controversial personality aside, officials went on the offensive, asking Pauline about the 11 weeks she spent behind bars in 2003 for electoral fraud. The politician – who was later acquitted – says, “I felt terribly embarrassed. I basically felt like a criminal. I was taken to another room and asked to ‘please explain’ about my time in jail.”
Before making any further travel plans, including a trip to Britain later this year, Pauline has vowed to make moves to ensure that her conviction will not continue to follow her around the world. She says, “I need to have this cleared up. I am not a criminal.”
